Why Vista crashes so often when dual display is enabled?

I use display adapter that is in Vista Hardware compatibility list. I
experienced zero problems with single display settings. But as soon as I
enable dual display settings I will start to get occasional blankouts and
messages, that display driver stopped responding, sometimes followed by
restart.
I have used Dual displays since Windows 98, but under Vista this is most
painful. Please, stop the crap and do some work to improve stability!

It is clearly a driver issue. I have absolutely no such problems.

Sorry LesleyO, but loosing my work several times in a row, made me very angry.
Now I am calm again, but seems, like I should more actively search
replacement for Windows to save my nerves.

Maybe this is somehow related with the fact that I use 64 bit Vista on Core
2 Duo system?
When I did some research in the Internet using the error message, I found
thousans of messages describing similar problem, so the problem seems to be
quite common. The error message is BTW "Display Driver has stopped Working
and has recovered". Sometimes it recovers well, but sometimes it seems to go
into cycle and after 4..5 cycles performes memory dump and restart.

At work we have about six desktops running dual monitors with Vista
Ultimate both X32 & X64 with mainly ATI vcards with no problems.
First thing to do is to check your vcards web site for the latest
drivers. if you are using the latest drivers then they may have become
corrupted and you should uninstall and reinstall them. Also make sure
you have the proper profiles for both of your monitors and that they are
listed in display settings.

I already did that. Display drivers (ATI) are updated, monitors are also
with proper profiles.
The system works several hours with dual monitors just fine, but then the
problem appears again. I have noticed, that if I manage to activate some
process (for instance press save button) right after the first recovery, then
I can work several hours without the problem. But if I do not do any action,
the error will sart to cycle and finally restarts the computer.
As my action has some influence on the problem, therefore I suspect, that
this is Vistas fault. My actions with MS Word should not have any influence
to the display drivers.

If my computer acted like that I would suspect a hardware (board, or memory)
problem.

If you have an ATI card, uninstall Catalyst Control Panel and just run with
the drivers. If after doing this, you have no control over dual displays,
download and run DispalyFusion..

This is ahrd to believe, because in single display mode the system is rock
solid even under constant heavy load (several weeks of constant running with
CPU load 100%).
With dual displays my problem appears even without any load (writing a
letter under MS Word or even when left idle with dual display activated).
Single display mode is absolutely stable with monitor connected either
connector of the video adapter.
Google gives 300000+ results with my error message. This should be driver
issue and maybe issue of the Vista OS.

I should try to use dual display under Knoppix too, if this will be stable,
then it is clear, that Windows system is faulty.
