Why is Vista so slow?? It SUCKS

I have used programs from MSDOS to Vista and by far Vista is the worst
program of the lot. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Without exception,
everytime I attempt to open a window, it takes for ever for the progress bar
at the bottom to fillup and more often than not, I have to give up and start
over. It is like it is stuck in a perpetual loop and just can't finish the
requested task. I am paying for a cable modem and getting dial up results
with Vista. This is fleecing of America. I recently had to purchase a new
laptop and of course it had Vista. If the service pack does ever come and
does not fix the issues with this crappy program, I would be in favor of
filing a class action suit for Microsoft to either fix the issues or replace
the program with XP which was great. Does anyone have any idea when or if
there is a service pack coming?

Sounds like you bought one of those marginally ready Vista machines. Vista
takes a lot of juice to run.

You need to have for a Vista laptop:

- 2 cores, 4 when available
- big hard drive, those check points are nasty
- dedicated video ram, treat UMA and shared memory like a 3000 lb dead
weight you don't need
-3 to 4GB memory
- patience

Should run OK after that. You can skimp on memory to 2GB as long as you 1)
don't do anything other than mail, surf and light word processing only and
2) Don't open too many Windows at once.

Join the club. I want XP Pro x64 suitable for a Q6600 and 8GB. Even my
wife hates Vista.

The American Public is the loser. I will see if this thing can accept any upgrades. It is a dv2432nr, who knows??

Please list the hardware specs of your computer.

Phew so long as it's only America. The rest of us can sleep soundly.
Check back to the other thread you started saying exactly the same thing,
you'll find some people are trying to help you.

Are you sure it's a Vista thing? If you've got weak hardware then no number
of service packs are going to fix that.

Apologies, you didn't start that thread.... you were replying to it.
Check the thread, I posted a link explaining WEI for you

HP implementaions of laptops with Vista are notorious for being
underpowered. In any case, I am running XP on two laptops, one HP of the
dv***nr vintage and a MacBook with VM Fusion...both work great. ((and I will
not get into any wars here, because the Mac screwed up a lot with Leopard
and iLife8!! Fortunately, I got rid of both upgrades...the whole industry
has no clue))

I've an HP machine as well — an a6230n model desktop. It's far from the
high-end version, but it isn't slow, either. The only thing it's not good at
is 3D gaming, which I don't do, and I researched that before I bought. The
WEI rating for that is only 3, and 3.1 for Aero. But for the processor it's
5.3; for RAM, it's 5.9; for the primary hard disk, 5.6. So no, it isn't slow
for what I want it to do, which is MS Office apps and photo editing.

Have you added ReadyBoost via a USB thumb drive? I don't know if that would
help with your particular problem, but anything is worth trying.

As far as the Internet goes, I'm connected through ADSL, which is usually
slower than cable, and also on a wireless network to a router downstairs in
our home — which slows things down yet again. But the speed is still fine
for most purposes, although downloads take longer than they would on a
direct connection.

Fleecing? Not here. But then, this isn't a laptop.

Well I don't know what YOU use a laptop for, mine runs perfectly well
(Office 2007) on 2 core, 1GB RAM and an 80GB HDD. (Though I'm not sure
EXACTLY why you should need a "big" hard drive...)

Bart

Is this the model?:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=41446&lang=en

Better specs than my Compaq laptop and I have none of the problems you
detail. Apart from posting here what steps have you taken?

Check for Malware etc
Speak to your ISP
Speak to Vendor
Speak to HP

You have warranty I presume - exercise your rights - you have paid for them.

I too have migrated all the way from DOS 3.5 and although there are a few
things in Vista I don't like, I've no complaints about its performance.

Bill
