Why is Windows shutting down when I access Floppy drive?

I saw this same problem posted today, but somehow lost my connection and
can't find the post again. The post said something about a recent MS OS
update being the problem. Besides the shutdown, my hard drive is running
almost continueously. I q
am using Windows XP w/SP2. I need to have access to my floppy drive, so
many hel would be appreciated.
