I recently deleted some files using that file cleaner from windows, but I
think one of the options I checked for deletion was something about
hibernation. The option to hibernate has now vanished from my start menu, so
I was wondering if there was something to get the option back. I have tried
things in command prompt but to no avail

Thanks in advance

You have to run Command Prompt as Administrator, by right-clicking the
shortcut. Here are the Instructions for the command:

Enable Hibernation:

Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges. In order to do that
please follow the "Quickly Open Command Prompt Here in Windows Vista"
article.

Next, type in the following command:

powercfg –h on

The powercfg command has many interesting options and can be used to
automate the creation, deletion and configuration of power plans for
your computer. Type powercfg /? for extensive help options.

And yes, If you run the Disk Cleanup wizard in Windows Vista
Enterprise, you will not be able to put the computer into hibernation.
This problem occurs if you select the Hibernation File Cleaner check
box when you run the Disk Cleanup wizard. Hibernation File Cleaner
removes the hibernation file and turns off hibernation.

Dear Ceed,

I also have the same problem and i did exactly as you advised Mrjinjing but
despite numerous attemps and also loggin in as Administrator directly on my
Toshiba A200 laptop the problem still persists. I can see the hiberfil.sys
file reappear but the option does not appear. Is there any other step I am
missing? Please advise.

Thanks,

Mohan

Nahom, Ceed

* In the Accessories folder, right click on the Command Prompt, click 'Run
as administrator'
* Copy & Paste the command powercfg -h on (press Enter)

You should check the options available in powercfg. You may have to change
the setting in the BIOS. Also check the advance settings in Windows control
panel power settings.

Drew,
I found out that the reson i could not see hibernate in the options was
becuase i had set sleep to hybrid sleep. As soon as i turned hybrid sleep off
I was aboe to see the hibernate option option. Whenever the hybrid sleep is
turned on the hibernate option is removed and replaced with the sleep option.
The command prompt also worked and it seemed the hiberfil.sys was always
there as i had never deleted it.

So the problem is solved and thank you everyone for your post and
information and suggestions as all these helped in solving the problem.

Have a good day,

Mohan
