It just does not go away. It does not hide the right icons. It does
not show name and icons. Window buttons became small. I have automatic
updates disabled, of course. But... can it be that it is automatically
updating the system? This is XP. I could not stand the latest search
functions in Explorer so I am using the previous, OEM installed
version. Maybe there is some connection I cannot close and it is
entertaining the status bar? Wi fi sometimes says it is connected
despite having the card disabled by the BIOS. Last time the bar was
working great! Could it be that somebody is internetting this laptop
while I am the main manager user? Reading files without consent? My
side bar with C: drive contents is opening and closing well, though.
But suddenly my Task Manager dropped the last letter off my name! Save
for one process... I dislike the idea of running through the hard
drive seeking a small utility to fix this problem because it should
fix it permanently. But I do suspect some undocumented feature letting
somebody fully access this place (the XP laptop) and making a mess of
my settings... It takes too long to fix those things! Do people ever
reply in this group? I wonder...
