CPU: Athlon 64 FX-55
MoBo: Asus A8N-E
RAM: OZC Platinum pc3200 2048Mb DDR

Video: MSI nVidia GeForce 6600 256Mb

Hard Drive: Seagate 250Gb SATA
250 Iomega Zip drive
2-Samsung DVD drives
*****************************

Windows 7 beta build 7000 Ultimate didn't
fully install onto the above system.
It got to a point in the installation " setup is starting services "
and my Microsoft optical mouse would blink and the system
would shut down. My system would reboot and Windows 7 beta
displays a message about errors in the installation.

The next night I tried installing Windows 7 beta
onto another system I had. Using the same Seagate 250Gb
hard drive.

CPU: Athlon 64 X2-5000 2.6Ghz AM2
MoBo: Asus M2N-MX SE
RAM: OZC pc6400 2048Mb DDR2

Video: ATI Radeon X1600 256Mb

Hard Drive: Seagate 250Gb SATA set to 3.0Gbit/s
LG DVD drive

This time at the same point in the installation, "setup starting services",
the optical mouse blinked and the monitor dimmed.
But the monitor returned and display at an enhanced resolution.
And Windows 7 beta was up and running.

I'm thinking the problem may of been the old nVidia Geforce 6600 video card
in the first system.

I swapped out the Geforce 6600 card from the old system, into the system
below
CPU: Athlon 64 X2-5000 2.6Ghz AM2
MoBo: Asus M2N-MX SE
RAM: OZC pc6400 2048Mb DDR2

Video: Switch to Geforce 6600

Hard Drive: Seagate 250Gb SATA set to 3.0Gbit/s
LG DVD drive

and Windows 7 installed just fine. And with just 20Gb of
hard drive space.

I gest I was wrong about the card.

Now I'm wondering which other componet could it be?
The motherboard, DDR memory or the 939 AMD Athlon FX-55
CPU

I have a OEM copy of MS Windows Vista. I'll see if that installs.
In the:
CPU: Athlon 64 FX-55
MoBo: Asus A8N-E
RAM: OZC Platinum pc3200 2048Mb DDR

Video: MSI nVidia GeForce 6600 256Mb

Hard Drive: Seagate 250Gb SATA
250 Iomega Zip drive
2-Samsung DVD drives

I'll play around with the componets.
I could also disable Zip drive and see if thats it?

Try this: Unplug all unneeded external USB devices, serial printer,
whatever, including your network cable or/and wireless.
