A quick web search reveals ckvo0.dll to be malware, so it may be interfering with Messenger's
operation. Looks like it's a real nasty one that you can't just delete as there's several
components to it.

I'm not sure which product could necessarily be used to remove it. If you upload the file
(which should be in \windows\system32 folder) to
www.virustotal.com, it will show you a
report of which scanners can identify it and you can use that information to determine which
product you should use (hopefully one of the freeware ones like AVG).
