Hi

Register MSXML3.dll and see if it helps:

1. Click Start.

2. Choose Run.

3. In the Run box, type (or copy/paste from this post)

%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\MSXML3.dll

(note the space there in the middle)

4. Click OK.

If that doesn't help, take a look here:

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site,
you see the 0x800A01AD error while looking for updates

OS: Windows XP SP2, updated during beta (where MSI problems started), re-
updated to final (where WU problems started)

I am having the 0x800A01AD error as well. I've searched through several of
the different threads within these forums and tried many of the different
posted solutions to this problem and similar problems, but haven't had any
success yet. I've tried the link to windows support given to me when I
recieve the error, many different regsvr32 commands, one very long sc command,
the Impersonate a client after authentification settings, and nearly
everything else that I've found within these forums.

I have also noticed that Windows Installer is not working for me ("The Windows
Installer Service could not be accessed.") I would be very grateful if
anybody could help me find a solution to these issues.

Hi

If you have Windows XP Pro, you might want to follow the procedure
here:

How To Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults

I got this error code :0x80010108 and somtimes
0x8024001E or 0x800A01AE
One of thease error codes always appeared even in
selective start up with don't load startup items
From there my dowload went very smooth with the exception
of having to power down my machine with switch on the
back to cut all power to restore my internet settings
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, Torgier! This has fixed my WU and MSI problems, as well as
several other more minor problems I've noticed since updating to SP2!
