wifi sync with Norton Internet Security

I've got an odd thing going on with my 5555.

In the Personal Firewall settings of Norton Internet Security I've got MA
ActiveSync set to Permit All which ought to give it full access. When I
turn on my wifi connection on the iPAQ I have access to the network. I turn
on ActiveSync and click the SYNC icon and it fails.

HOWEVER, if I disable Norton Internet Security and then click SYNC on the
iPAQ it syncs perfectly.

I see similar problems in connecting to a networked drive/folder on my host
computer from the iPAQ via Resco Explorer when NIS is active/inactive
(fails/succeeds when NIS is on/off). Pretty clearly NIS is preventing a
connection even though it is in theory supposed to be granting permission
according to what I have set at this point. I am apparently missing
something. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I hate dropping my firewall
completely just to sync.

Terry

Hi Terry,

I don't use Norton Internet Security but I think you might find the
following article on Chris De Herrera's site useful ---

Actually, you still have ActiveSync blocked. When you sync with your Ipaq,
you connect to you system via an IP address. Regardless of what program you
are trying to connect to, you get blocked right there.

Find out the IP address of the Ipaq. Allow that IP address through your
Firewall (usually, Personal Firewall, Configure, Networking). Typically,
this requires you to trust your Ipaq (and any other computers on your
network).

Now, provided your Ipaq can find your desktop, you should now be able to
sync.
