Wimdows Me to XP Upgrade crash due to running out of disk space

I was upgrading a machine from Windows Me to Windows XP and it had
almost finished, but the machine ran out of disk space. How can I get
to the drive to copy off some files and how can I get the upgrade to
restart after clearing off the space. When it boots back up and tries
to resume the update it gives a fatal error.

When it ran out of space a chose to skip the files it was trying to
install.

It sounds like your hard drive does not have the neccesary space to install
the upgrade, did you check the amount of free space before rtying to
upgrade?
