Win 2000 IE6 Windows Update Problem

Platform: Win 2000, Spak 4, All current patches installed
IE6, Spak 1, All current patches installed

Problem: When "Windows Update" (IE6, Tools)) is select, a blank screen
(white) is presented with "Done" in the lower left hand corner (status bar?).
I have tried every day for two weeks - same result.

Have tried all common repair to no avail. Even tried a re-install.
Apparently, the re-install does not eliminate all traces of the previous
installation; consequently, whatever is causing the problem is still active.
(Note: there are no viruses or trojans in the system.)

Any help will be appreciated.
