Win 2000 SP4 problems Re: Cd/ 0n line

I have recently purchased, and received the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 CD.
I ran the W2KSP4.EXE. It appears (for what I know) that it ran correctly. I
end up with the message; “successfully completed the service pack 4 setup
wizard” and wants to restart computer.

My problem is that When I run ‘Windows Update’ (on line) one of the 8
critical updates it wants to install is; “Update rollup 1 for Windows 2000
Service Pack 4" this file is 31.2MB and on my poor dial up it wants 1 hour
and 25 minutes. Can this be correct? Should not have my SP4 CD have covered
that?

It seems to me something is very wrong somewhere.

One other odd thing when I try to start to load SP4 from the CD; ‘Install
from CD’... click ‘here’. My Mozilla browser starts and the ‘Mozilla does
not know what to do with this file’ box comes up and ‘W2KSP4.exe’ is the
listed file. I have no idea what that’s about.

Sumptin ain't right.

Any and all assistance appreciated

Yes. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861

Rollup 1 was released on 27 Jun-05, after your CD was manufactured.

Is Mozilla your default browser, instead of Internet Explorer?

It would appear from the first paragraph of your post that you've
successfully installed Win2K SP4 so why are you now trying to load it from
the CD?

Whooa!!! Muchos gracias!! I missed that support document. I just
couldn't imagine that there was 32MB of 'update' to the SP4 CD I just
received. I will now download it. ( I had just done SP4 from the CD before
I went on line and saw that I neeeded the 32MB more, ) Many thanks.
Yes Mozilla is my default browser, thinking that it kinda' keeps me 'under
the radar' of the bad guys. Although I don't know why attempting the CD SP4
install should call it up.

Thanks again

YW.

The install process wants to validate your Windows version as genuine before
proceeding and needs to connect to do so. Try re-setting IE as the default
browser before continuing further as you can't connect successfully to
validate using any browser other than IE.
