I have an hyper-v virtual server (win 2008 x64 enterprise) with iis and
multiple ip addresses.
After installing the following updates:
KB970430
KB971737
KB973917
KB890830
the system stop during reboot (the screen keeps showing update 0% 3/3).
I tried to restart a clean backup copy of the virtual machine and tried to
reinstall the updates and find out that I got the same problem with KB970430
only.
Stopping the machine and restarting it in safe-mode, installation completes
but starting again, several services do not start, I can't open internet
explorer, network properties and some other windows, the network trayicon
shows that the network is connected but I can still ping another host...

Which safe mode? If command mode only try starting explorer.exe first.

Which version? To do what?

E.g. if IE8 try: Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter

iexplore.exe -nohome -extoff

What happens?

Again, knowing the type of safe mode that you are trying to use
would be relevant. I suspect you would need to be using at least
safe mode with networking to use those commands.

Starting in safe mode with network things are better. Network works and so IE
but I cannot open the windows update window and may services do not start.
Actually I do not exactly know wich services shoud start in safe mode with
network.
I suspect that something fails during boot that makes many services to fail
starting too.
I tried to start up the system with ntbtlog.txt and there are undreds of
drivers not loaded. The name of most of them begin with "@net". The first one
not loaded is "@nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP Adapter".
The devices windows opens showing no errors in safe mode with network but
does not open starting up normally.
