I have an old Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Extender with new Dell Win 7
ultimate machine. I can see the Extender on the network but MC cannot seem to
grab tge extender after entering the code. Firewall does not seem to be
knocking down and I have an xbox that works fine as an extender. Any Idea's
would be much welcomed as I am running out of why's.

the WMCE54AG does not work with Windows 7. (or Vista) is that what you are
using?

The new DMA2100/2200 extender should still work with W7.

it sounds like you have the original WMCE54AG, but please confirm

discontinued.

I can confirm that both the DMA2100 and DMA2200 work with Windows 7.

I can too.

With Win 7 though you can see what is on any other Win 7 MCE on the network
very easily. Getting to the point it is cheaper and easier to just get a
net-top and use it as an extender.

The older Dual-band Linksys Extenders will NOT work with Win7. You need
to get a new extender.

I have two of these extenders from when I used MCE 2005, and neither
will work with Win7.

Same here... I'm using the DMA2100 and it works well.

What's a "net-top"?

A Net-top is a small computer. It is a complete computer without a lot
of bells and whistles. It is the minimum amount of parts to make a
complete computer.

O.K.... but there is no extender software available for Win7 Media Center.

Therefore, you still have to have a fully functional computer. The most
that a "Net-top" will be able to do is map your PICs, Videos, etc.
You'll still be install a TV tuner card to watch TV, and this becomes
quite complicated and expensive if you have Satellite or digital cable
since you'll need an additional receiver (more subscription costs), not
to mention wiring, IR emitter, etc.

Frankly an extender is simply and the least costly. Just plug it in and
you're running (live TV, PICs, Videos, Internet TV, etc).
