ok now that I've dusted off my dos user manual you have to type dir/p/w
that will let you see what is on the rout dir of the cd.
you have to type setup.exe
ps you can get all the dos commands by typing help

yea umm people he is installing windows 98SE not windows 98

please help. i know this is a vista newgroup but i could not find a win 98
group.

i am installing win 98 se for a friend of mine. hard drive is fully
formatted. i put the start up disk and the dos promt comes on. i use cd
support and then i get to the d drive for the cd rom.

so I am at the d prompt, the cd drivers are installed and seing my cd rom.

now for the life of me, i cannot remember what dos command to type in here
to get the cd to kick in.

i tried several

cdwin 98

cdwin_98

setup

I am lost.

I'm pretty sure it is setup. Do a DIR and see what shows upon the CD.

Watch the screen carefully to see which drive is assigned to the cdrom.

drive D: is usually a RAM drive

If (for example) drive E: is assigned to the cdrom...
at the C: prompt simply type and enter E:


now just type and enter setup

and the installation should begin


NOTE: There still are a number of win98 groups so you may want to post
thetre if you have add;l questions
