Right-click in the folder background, select 'Customize' and make sure you
are using the 'All Items' template. Set the columns the way you want. Then
click:
'Organize' -> 'Folder & Search Options' -> 'View' tab -> 'Apply to Folders'
This will set your preferred view mode for folders that use the 'All Items'
template. The same can be done with the other templates (Documents,
Pictures & Video, etc).
If you open a folder and it's displaying icons & the column headers are
photo related, right-click in the folder background, select 'Customize' and
select the 'All Items' template.
To override content-sniffing, where Windows 'guesses' the folder content &
applies a template, add the following to your registry:
Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\All Folders
Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\All Folders\Shell
Value 0
Name: FolderType
Type: REG_SZ
Data: NotSpecified
Here's a link to a .reg file you can merge if you prefer that to manually
editing the registry.
