Does anyone know if there is a way and if so how to have Windows Live Mail
open by default to Newsgroups?

I don't use it for Mail. I just use it for these newsgroups. Every time I
open it, I have to click on Newsgroups. I would like to be able to open
Windows Live Mail and have it directly open to Newsgroups.

I don't seem to be able to fine anything for that in Options.

Thanks,
Ed.

Start it with the parameter /outnews

Have a nice day/weekend!

I know this is not what you are asking, but I hit Ctrl+Shift+L for
Newsgroups.
To get back to the mail you don't use it's Ctrl+Shift+J.

Try Default Programs in the Control Panel.

Edit the properties of the shortcut by adding /news to the end of the
target path.

Shortcut command line
For Mail mode
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news

For News mode
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /mail

For Outlook(to ensure the mail icon in WLM opens Outlook)
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /outnews
- if prompted do not make Outlook newsreader the default news client
- if wishing to add the 'News' button to the Outlook 03/07 toolbar it is only available in XP, Vista but not Windows 7.

Thanks to all that replied. I got it doing what I wanted from your replies
by adding the /news.

Thanks again and truly appreciate the help,
Ed.

Click on "GO" then click on Newsgroups and configure as usual and you're in
business.

Glad you got it..
Hopefully you caught my error, I had the news and mail suffixes reversed for each...I cut and pasted from each shortcut on my Quick
Launch bar correctly but typed the wrong name on top. Next time I'll cut/paste from my archive rather than type. Sorry.

Corrected below.
Shortcut command line

For News mode
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news
>

For Mail mode
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /mail

For Outlook(to ensure the mail icon in WLM opens Outlook)
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /outnews
- if prompted do not make Outlook newsreader the default news client
- if wishing to add the 'News' button to the Outlook 03/07 toolbar it is only available in XP, Vista but not Windows 7.
