The Win Live Messenger would not start

I am running Windows XP with SP2 and all updates. Windows Live Messenger has
been working fine for a long time. Suddenly, a few days ago, it won't open.
Uninstalled Messenger, cleaned the Registry, rebooted, re-installed, nothing
helped. Whenever I click on the Messenger's icon, the hourglass appears
momentarily, but nothing else happens, the sign-in window never opens. In
the Task Manager, the more I try the more "msnmsgr.exe" processes I see with
00 CPU, but different memory usage.
How to get Windows Live Messenger v.8.1.0178.00 to open and work?

Greetings Ilya,

What you're generally describing is a problem with Messenger and a router on your local
network. Assuming you do have a router, you may
need to either reset it (unplug it and plug back in) and/or upgrading its firmware to the
latest version from the router manufacturer.

More than likely the former as it was working before.

Hi,

Great. May I inquire which router manufacturer and model it is?

I have TRENDnet 108Mbps 802.11g Wireless Firewall Router Model TEW-452BRP.
It was installed just recently. On my machine, I have Linksys Wireless-B PCI
Adapter Model WMP11. My Linksys router died and I got this brand new
TRENDnet (on sale and with rebates!). What's could be interesting, the
router worked, I was connected to Internet and if not your suggestion never
would think that there was any problem with it...
Thanks again.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. If you're wondering, this isn't specifically a TRENDnet problem as
other routers have had the same issue.

Hopefully it won't happen again.

I did not think that this could be a specific TRENDnet problem. What
surprised me that everything worked, but the Messenger... May you tell me
what was going on?

Hello Everyone,

I just found this info on the newsgroup.

I just installed the windows mail on my laptop, and windows live msn is not
working. I click to start it but nothing starts, the same situation that
Ilyaz described.

I don't have a router, just the cabe modem.

Anyone knows what can be wrong?

thanks in advance.

Carlos
