Win server 2008 and 200r2

I'm going to by a book to study windows server but unfortunally there aren't
many dealing with R2. Is there a difference in the interface i.e. the
changes are more 'under the hood' (a book about 2008 still makes sence)?

Yes, 2008 R2 has additional options but the basics are the same. See here
