Hello all,

I instantly get an error message when trying to access Win update page. Here
you can see what the message looks like
http://myftp.hotmail.ru/Snapshot.gif

I have Windows XP Home Edition and my Windows is fully licensed, in case of
any doubts.

What do I do to resolve the issue?

Show hidden files, folders, and system files:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#winxp

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
Delete the contents of WuRedir or drag the entire folder to the Recycle Bin
IF you get a message that a file is in use by another program, then stop
the Automatic Update service by going to Start > Run > type in

net stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
Restart the service after doing the above from Start > Run > type in

net start wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter

Then download and SAVE the latest version of the Windows Update Agent,
if it hasn't already come down via Automatic Updates :
x86 [32bit]
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237
Download and save KB927891 if it hasn't already come down via AU :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

Install WUA first, then run WindowsXP-KB927891-v3-x86-ENU.exe
Restart the system and revisit Windows Update.

I have the same problem on a Sony Vaio RS320 with Win XP Home Sp2. I moved
the Software Distribution folder to the Recycle bin and got the following
result when installing WUA - "Install failed with following error number:
ox80070020"
Any suggestions?

PROBLEM SOLVED: I did a little more looking into the error code - turned off
my AV (both Symantec and Spybot) and successfully completed the Windows
Update. Don't forget to turn your AV back on!

Spybot's TeaTimer is the cause of error 0xx80070020. Disable it prior to
accessing the Windows Update site.
The author's of Spybot have been notified about this issue.

Roll back to IE6 and see if that helps.

Before wiping/reloading, check the windowsupdate.log on the 3 boxes

Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log
Click OK or press Enter

Scroll down towards the bottom for the most recent entries. Look for
error codes in this format : 0xXXXXXXXX

Post back with either a snippet of the afflicted systems' logs are the
section of the log that contains them.
