Most probable reason is that it did not install correctly or the
files necessary to communicate with the Windows Update site are not
registered properly.
To revert back to your previous setup, follow these steps :
1. Boot to the Recovery Console (you will need the admin password)

2. Type cd $ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst
3. Type batch spuninst.txt
4. The screen may/will scroll around, saying “files missing”,
“access denied” and also copying files about. Wait for this all to
finish
5. Reboot.

REMEMBER : It is critically important that you first ascertain that
the current OS is not infested with spy or malware. Disable or
uninstall any 3rd party software that may interfere with the
installation ( antivirus program, disk utilities, etc. )
