I know how you feel, I guess I am lucky in the fact my problems are not as
severe as yours. I did find one Knowledge Base article (KB875350) on how to
de-install SP2, although after following the instructions, nothing changed.
Basically it stated to use the Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs"
function. Which it stated to select the Check Box for "Show Updates", which
will allow you to see updates applied to your system; besides just the
programs. Select the Win XP SP2 Update and then follow the Pop-Ups. It
retruned my system to SP1, but as I stated, nothing has changed as to my
problems.
From whatelse I have read, MS is stating that SP2 was put through its
testing and passed for GA. However, they also state that they cannot be
responsible for all the configurations we might have. I also read that there
is an issue with the Hard Drive formatting if you try to recover from SP2.
Which I get the opinion that the only option is to re-format the drive using
an SP1 Boot Disk and then re-laying the rest of your system down.
I have pretty much resigned myself to having to re-format my drive and
rebuild, once I have the time to cut my arm off

. Although I am really
concerned that my backup has been corrupted with whatever the problem is, and
will restore the problem back if I try restoring anything. I will try to
remember to write an update once I have gone through this exhuastive process;
as to the outcome.
