Win XP Pro Re-install

Hello,
I am experiencing various O/S issue resulting in numerous failing MS
software components. Consequently I am rebuilding on a new HDD.
Questions:
1. How do I go about re-obtaining all of the "automatic" MS O/S patches and
updates for Win XP Pro without MS thinking this is an illegal copy.
2. Do I need to register my copy again to get all of the "automatic" patches
and updates.

Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft will not know or care if that computer has previously installed
any updates, #1 is a non issue.
Registration is NEVER required, Activation is required.
Worst case with Activation is a 5 minute call to Microsoft.
