Hi. I am trying to install a Wireless USB Adapter, and the software tells me
I need to install the Windows XP Service Pack 1 first, but I cannot find
Service Pack 1. I found SP1a, but when I try to install it tell me I need
Service Pack 1.

Is there anyone who can help me?

Thanks,

H

Is "internet explorer 6 sp1" the same thing as "Window XP SP1"?

Sorry, I made an error there.
What I suggest is that you run Windows Update manually and see if SP1a comes up for
your system - I don't think SP1 is available now.
or

or
You could search the Catalog.

Install SP 2, it includes SP 1.

Thanks for your help Mikey and Taurarian. I appreciate it.

I currently have SP2, and the manufacturer of the Adapter is telling me to
uninstall SP2, and then reinstall SP1 and SP2, but this doesn't make any
sense because there is apparently no SP1 now that there is an SP2.

I think I might try a different manufacturer. :-) Thanks again,

Heather

Press Win-Break and tell us what version of Windows you are running.

If you already have XPsp2 the error messages may be just their
quirky way of telling you "Don't do that. You already have what you
are trying to install (or a superseded version of it.)"

I'm running Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.

So do you think as long as I know SP2 is included, I will be ok to use the
USB adapter and I can go ahead and install it despite the message?

Thanks,

Heather

Assuming upward compatibility for the package and assuming it is just
a warning (and not an enforced bad assumption on the part of the update),
in general, yes, since XPsp2 supersedes XPsp1. It wouldn't matter
if the second assumption was wrong since the update would just balk
but I think you would be smarter researching the first at least a bit
(e.g. to see if there are warnings about using it under XPsp2 or perhaps
to find out that there is a more appropriate version now being offered
for XPsp2 users.)
