I have tried updating my windows and have failed numerous times on
downloading the Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Express)*. This Error keeps
popping up:
Service Pack 1 Setup Error:
The file c:\windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys is open or in use by another
application close all other applications and then click retry.
Now I have troubleshooted this to no end. I have tried closing all programs
and dowloading it, failed. I have tried downloading it to my desktop and then
uploading it to my computer, failed. I have tried downloading to my desktop
then uploading it after a clean boot, all failed. I have contacted Windows
professional service, but they have not contacted be back yet. So please can
anyone help me out here?

Hi

This error message can be caused by virtual drives software.

If you are using any virtual drives, for example Daemon Tools or
Alcohol's virtual drive, then you must disable them, and in the case
of Daemon Tools uninstall the program.

Alternatively, try to rename the file before (or while) you
install the service pack:

When the installation complains about Atapi.sys and asks you to
"Retry" or "Cancel", simply go to Windows/System32/Drivers and
rename Atapi.sys to whatever. Then go back to the installation
and select "Retry" - the installation should then complete.
