Win XP Service Pack 2 is annoying

When I download XP Service Pack 2, it is annoying for me
to use Internet Explorer. It always beeps, and sometimes
it routes me to a different page than I intend to go to,
even if I bookmark it, or type it in the address bar.

Without it the page shows up normally, and there is no
annoyance, but some Windows programs like Paint do not
work.

How can I workaround this?
