Win XP SP1/2

Running Win XP on Compaq Presario 2100 Laptop, 20 gig hd, 192 mb ram, 2.4 ghz
celeron intel processor, based in London, connected to broadband (BT)
recently, Internet Explorer at first opens a few sites, thenall of a sudden
does not load any sites anymore, if i type in www.micrsoft.com for example,
it goes micrsofot.com, then .net, then .org etc.

Do not think there is a problem with the connection, must be xp.
If i refresh the website like 5 - 10 times, sometimes i get some info, but
not all.

Using a BT Voyager 105 modem with software supplied by BT. There are no
specific drivers on the cd for xp, only win 95, win 98.

That's a symptom that your DNS has failed.
Go to a command window and enter nslookup
You will probably find that it can't find the DNS server.

BTW this is off-topic for this newsgroup.
A better newsgroup would be networking for your OS.
