Win XP Updates

I've been scrupulous in installing all critical updates
to windows. Howevewr, recently, I go to the site,
download the update, but nothing happens. I do a control
alt delete, and it shows the update running, but nothing
happens even if I wait 15 minutes. Is seems to be in some
never never land. Any ideas?

Start with Method 4 on this page :

If that does not resolve the issue go back and start with Method 1.
If none of the suggested methods resolve the issue open the Windows
Update.log found in the WINDOWS folder with Notepad. Scroll down
towards the bottom for the most recent entries and locate any error
code(s) associated with the last failed attempts to update. Then go
here : http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
and look for the error code (s) you encountered in the log. Try the
suggested resolutions. If they provide no relief or the error code
is not on the Troubleshooter page, post back with the last 20 or so
lines of the log.
