WIN XPSP2 AND OTHER UPDATES FAIL TO DOWNLOAD

Win xp sp2 won't download, the message is that 'the product key used to
install it might not be valid'. I don't know what this means. Automatic
updates is on and I've checked all my settings but can't find the problem.
Have been on microsoft website for 2 and a half hours now and totally
frustrated! Also, lots of other updates and cds fail to download, and I just
tried installing a spyware program that didn't work either. Please explain in
simple terms, I'm not very technical and don't understand all the jargon! I'm
using windows Xp professional version 5.1.

thanks jupiter- you might be right but I already did a piracy check on the
how to tell website and it was all okay- the windows xp came with my pc and
was bought from pc world- would it be possible for it to be piracy?? By the
way, I have the error code now, if that makes any difference to the fiasco.

If the Product ID is listed here, contact the seller:

Otherwise follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:

Follow all the steps but it may be resolved by steps 7 - 10.
