Win2k AutoUpdate not working

I have a Win2k Computer. I did the old (manual) "Windows Update" and
everything worked fine. I then accepted the offer from your website for the
new "Microsoft Update" and that does not work. Every time I try it, the
update just sits there, w/the green bar scrolling by for about 20minutes and
then it says it cannot continue. And then the old update does not work
either.
If I go in and clear the cookies, internet files, turn off "Auto Uddate
Services" and rename the "Software Distribution" folder and reboot, then the
old update works again. If I try doing the new update, it hangs again.
What gives?

Workaround: Change the default from Microsoft Update to Windows Update: Go
to Microsoft Update > Click on Change Settings in left pane > Scroll to
bottom of page > To Stop Using Microsoft Update > Disable Microsoft Update
software and let me use Windows Update only (check). cf.

With Windows Update as your default, you will need to check in at Office
Update to keep your Office applications fully patched:
