Win2k SP4 wont initiat windows update scan

Last week I downloaded and installed all critical security updates. Now I
can no longer initiat a scan from windows update. It appears as if IE will
no longer process javascript properly. Additionally I am unable to uninstall
the updates because in add/remove programs I only see icons no text.

Any Ideas.

If you manually download and install 889669, does it start to
work better then?

An update rollup is available for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=889669

(889669 includes MS04-040/889293 + some additional non-security
related updates)


Note:
If 889669 fixes the problem, next time Microsoft releases a cumulative
update for Internet Explorer, you may experience the problem again.

Then you will need to download a newer version of the IE update rollup
(that includes the new cumulative update + some additional
non-security related updates). Note that the IE update rollups are
not delivered through Windows Update.
