Last week I upgaded my old WIN2K machine to XP SP2. It went well but the 83
updates available won't install automaitcally. I can install them
individually but not from the yellow shield on the system tray. The log
files fail with this kind of message in each log file:

10.726: FindFirstFile c:\winnt\$hf_mig$\*.*
10.726: KB936357 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
10.726: KB936357 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
10.726: KB936357 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.
10.726: KB936357 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not
correct.

Anybody got any ideas?

Try this:

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot may be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237
(You may need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce" right
after an additional reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

Thank You, thank you, thank you.

Dial a Fix worked like a charm. I only wish I had known about this before
I manually updated 79 updates!

Now to upgrade the other computer.

Excellent! I was having the same issues and tried Dial-a-Fix as you
suggested. Worked like a charm. Keep up the good work!
