If I reformat my HD and install Win 98 SE will I be able to get the updates
that were available for Win 98 SE through Windows Update or will I need to
download and install them all individually?

Thanks,

-Kevin

You REALLY access the internet in Windows 98? You'd be better off using
Linux instead, if you can't afford anything more secure!

Gordon,
I'm behind a NAT router, I keep IE's Internet Zone set on HIGH, I use Zone
Alarm, AVG Anti virus, Spybot and Ad-Aware.
The system is secure enough.

You'll first need to manually download & install IE6 SP1 (Tip: Disable your
anti-virus application before installing), then go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all critical updates offered.

Anyone have any idea why many of us on Windows 98SE are getting redirected to
this page when we try to access Windows Update:

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...&thankspage=2&

It reads:
"Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/."

There's a discussion going on about it here:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=94225

We're trying to find a fix but none are consistent...

Thanks for any help.

So, you're saying you don't know the answer to this posters original
question? I have an older computer using Win98se and I still access
the internet just fine with it. A router, a firewall, and up-to-date
AVG, AdAware, and Spybot S&D programs have kept it clean, so far.
What's your point? If you didn't know the answer, you should have kept
your mouth shut, or your fingers off the keyboard, in this instance.

You can also download individual updates from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click
the “Go To Download Basket” link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the
updates saved to and then Click the “Download Now” button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD that way you'll always have them if you need
to reinstall your OS again.

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or from the Microsoft
Update Catalog
