Windoes Update V4 to V5

Hello,

I need some help with Windows Update.

I am working on a Compaq Presario desktop that had some problems with
malware. I got rid of the malware and decided to update the PC XP SP2 and
any other critical updates. I went to the Microsoft Update site and let it
scan the PC and it came back with a box telling me I needed to update the
scanning/downloading software. I said yes and downloaded it and it went to
install but froze at 100% of the install. I let it sit for quite some time,
but it just sat there.

I went back to Windows Update and now it tells me that I need to install the
new software, but the download box never comes up. It just sits the no
matter how long I leave it.

I have been all around trying to find solutions, but nothing came up. So, I
installed SP2 from the CD thinking that it would also install V5 of the
software, but it didn't.

Any help will be much appreciated.
