Is there a way to set the border size to something smaller?

The appearance tab says that they're currently set to "1". Apparently not
one pixel, but one "unit" of some sort.

I want to set a smaller size because some older Windows programs I run,
while working fine, have the bottom edges of their buttons and other
features clipped by the border around the window. In most cases this isn't
an issue, you can see enough of them to tell what they are. But in a couple
of cases the "other features" are coordinates for the IDE or error messages
or things of that nature. Enough is clipped that you can't read the text.

Control Panel/Preferences, Color prefs. see link for 'classic appearance
properties...', Advanced button, set "Item' dropbox to "Border padding" ...

Sounds like what I want, but I'm not finding it.

However, when I open the control panel, I don't see "Preferences."

What I do find is "Personalization." If that's what you mean, then "Window
Color and Appearance" is available there, which does have an "Open classic
appearance properties for more color options."

I'm using the "Windows Aero" on that setup box. But did select "Windows
Classic" and "Advanced..." The "Advanced Appearance" does have a "Border
Padding," which is set to zero. Since I prefer to use Aero, I did not
switch to the "Windows Classic" option.

I assume there is no way to set the border padding option without switching
to "Windows Classic." Right?

Bill,

I believe zero will be it. Take a look here to make sure that you are
in the right area. I believe you are.
