I have been looking to see if any updates are needed for my system and every
time I go to the Windows update site, It seems to freeze while looking to see
if updates are needed on my system.

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co....aspx?ln=en-us

It appears to load and says done in the bottom bar. It was able to search
another computer on my home network

Running XP home SP2.
HP A720N - New system < 1 week old

Please advise -

Thank you

Just to be clear, the freeze is in the update process. Not my system. There
are also several dead links on the page (i.e. I can click on help and
support, but " Check Microsoft newsgroups" is a dead link

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x8007043B error
This error may occur if the WUAUSERV and BITS services are not configured properly in
the registry.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=19&ln=en

or

Try registering the following:

Click Start, select Run and type (pressing enter after each one and wait for the
success message):

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll

or

Click Start, select Run and type (pressing enter after each one and wait for the
success message):

net.exe stop wuauserv
Press Ok

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

I tried changing the regisrty as indicated below by running each line
iundividually.

I receive the following message when I click on Settings on the Windows
update Page. g_o userdata is null or not an object.

I also receive a similar message when I attempt to go to the McAfee update
page

Thank you.

I have sent this to Microsoft tech support who is supposed to contact me
within 1 day; When I fix it I will let you all know.

Screen Just hangs here: Checking for the latest version of the Windows
Update software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this
time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security
warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click
Install or Yes to install the software.

Thank you for the suggestions. Still not working. It appears as if McAfee
update installer is getting hung up too. Please advise.
