I have a Vista operating system HP Pavilian a6130n PC that I got from
CompUSA last fall. When I try to install my update for my works version 8.5
I get an error code 8024002D. When I try to re-install the update I am
getting Microsoft Works Message "The feature you are trying to use is on a
network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an
alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "WORKS8.MSI in
the box belos...(c:\hp\tmp\src\MSWORKS\..." however there is no such file
folder. I have check through all your replys but none are helpful to me. I
can solve simple solutions, but this is beyond me. If this update patch is
very important, why can't Microsoft improve on update patches that resovles
around software that is pre-installed.

(by the way...I cannot go back to CompUSA, they close their stores and they
only do business through internet now. Also I do not think HP can help
either since this is Microsoft software issue.)

I need help...is there a simple solution to this?????????

Some have had success with the full file -
Did you read the instructions
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Basically what the error means it needs the disk as it can't find the source
files. No disk makes this hard. Sometimes installing the full file in
situations like this succeeds but on occasions, the full file will also ask
for the CD.

Good luck.

I have the very same problem as tk. I have HP Pavilion a6110n. I went to
link in your reply and it gives numerous files to download and implies select
what you need. How in the heck would one know what file to download.

I have Office Home and Student 2007, is the disk that is needed with Vista
operating system to get the security update for MS Works 8? I have no disc
for MS Works as it came installed on my computer, unless it is part of the
Office product mentioned previously. My version of MS Works is 8.5? Does
that make a difference. This really frustrating and have not had any issues
of this nature before.

Here is what I did to succeed. download KB955428_en-US.cab from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
save to your C: drive. Another window will open and you extract it to your
C: drive. Go to your C: drive and click on the extracted file and it will
appear to be installing but go away. Restart your computer and then install
the update and it should succeed. I hope this helps. You don't need your
installation CD for MS Works.

I have a SONY Vaio and they don't come with any CDs for the things installed,
nor a repair CD- it's all on a hidden partition. So I'm double screwed
here!!! I can't find anything about MSworks.

sjd143, You have downloaded to the c drive correctly. I would suggest
turning off the (UAC), control panel, user accounts and uncheck (UAC) to help
protect your computer. Then try the same steps. If it installs correctly
then turn UAC back on. I know of two other people that my instructions has
helped. posted in the vista64.com forum. I hope this works.
