After installing SP3 windows update will not work even if I tell to allow
automatic updates. I tried all work around to make updates work. There no
specific error message. It says there are problems.

See/follow:

"Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation".

Windows downloaded an update lat night that i assume is sp3 from this
discussion. my computer will now only start in safe mode. in all other
startup modes including system restores of yesetrday and last friday, i get
the windows startup screen with the 3 blue bars in the window. the startup
never goes beyond this point. the 'regsvr' fix didn't work, the 'last know
good configuration doesn't work', and of course, the 'regular mode' doesn't
work either.

where to next?

Continual reboots or can only boot into Safe Mode after installing WinXP
SP3?

Workarounds:

• Boot into Safe Mode and rename INTELPMM.SYS to INTELPMM.OLD.

• After booting into Safe Mode:

Start | Run | (copy/paste) sc config intelppm start= disabled | OK | Reboot
into normal (Windows) mode.
