Window update notification

How do I turn off automatic notifications? They always pop up at the most
inconvenient times, and disrupt what I'm in the middle of! I thought I
disabled it once, but they have started coming again, and I can't find the
place where I disabled it now.

Right click My Computer and click Properties.
Select Automatic Update tab.
Make desired selections.

If you turn off Automatic Update, be your you check for new updates monthly.
