window update scanning forever

I tried to get latest update from microsoft on window XP sp2 media center.

I am having this same problem. It ran for hours yesterday and it gets to the
checking for updates with the green bar going across, but it never goes any
further then scanning.

Can someone please help.

I have win xpsp2 and had nothing but trouble from April 4 to April 11.I got
in touch with MS for the Auto update and after 1 hr working with them
...nothing.They called me on the 11th and took my pc over ..catroot file was
nothing but errors along with software distribution folder.They worked while
i watched and after about 45 minutes not only did my pc take updates but the
clock updated.Servers for the NE of US are down for the clock updates.But as
i watched they went to the bulletin page and downloaded some updates. Try
doing a search for the updates at the MS search for update numbers and try
downloading that way..if not email them, for auto update is non-fee from
MS..hope this helps.
