Same problem here. With XP SP2 on an IBM Thinkpad.
I started the machine in "safe mode" with only MS services running and the
installation ran through.
I don't know what the problem is or if it is solved.
I have just verified that it does not have anything to do with the Norton
Internet Security package.
Previously I have had no problems installing these security packages.
