window updates failed; code 80070005

Hi. Everytime I try to search for new updates, it always says that it can't
be done and gives the error code 80070005..then, the one time it checked for
updates, it wouldn't install them..How do i fix this?

Posting the Version of Windows installed would be nice <w>

80070005 usually indicates a Permissions issue. Please initiate a manual
visit to Windows Update via the Start Menu or open Internet Explorer,
click Tools, Windows Update.
When the error code shows up, close IE.
Go to Start > Run > type in or copy&paste the below into the Open: line

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the log
Copy and paste the last 50 or so lines into your reply please.

The issue may be caused by the installed antivirus/security suite/3rd
party firewall/anti-malware software/popup/cookie blocker/download
manager/or even multiple forms of 3rd party toolbars.

I had trouble with update since Feb., and finally decided to fix it.

I found several things which seemed relevant, then I found Dial-a-fix

which seemed to include some of the other previous measures.

Also, there is much there aboud backing up, and using safe mode.

I just set a restore point, and plain forgot to use the F8, but no ill
effects.

See if you can manually update Defender:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx

Under Latest Definition Updates, in the right frame, click either the
32 bit or 64 bit link, depending on the version of Windows installed.
Save the download
When the download completes, close all open browsers and programs.
Run mpas-fe.exe

Updates are not downloaded or the “Automatic Updates� icon does not display
the status of downloads when you enable the Automatic Updates service:

Your problem appears not to relate to error code 80070005 = Access Denied

Your problem is that the update is regulated and not allowed to download.
