Since installing the latest service pack, my cpu now freezes up at random and
has to be restarted. I do not receive any error messages. I tried to roll it
back with system restore, but this did not help. Any ideas?

Best advice, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", no matter what the Microsoft
gods tell you.
I have countless aquaintances who have innocently downloaded "critical
updates" only to have their system stop working.

Just say no to Windows "crapdate".

I have this problem also. Several people have suggested that SP2 makes
the drivers load incorrectly, and that you should re-install drivers
after loading SP2.
I haven't fixed mine yet. Will let you know.

Yes, the situations sound similar, except I did not notice it until I
installed the service pack. I have to turn the computer off and then
on the
restart. I am wondering if it is related to my Zone Labs firewall
though. I
am running a Dell Dimension computer. There is also a MS tech looking
into it
too. If he finds the problem, I will post it.

I am having a similar problem, but also had it BEFORE I loaded the latest
service pack. What we need to do is find out WHY the freeze. But unless
there is a way of looking at the system at that moment, this is going to be
hard to fix. I am wondering if it is hardware related. My system freezes
and I have to TURN OFF and TURN ON to restart. I presume you cannot
restart
in any other way. I also have long periods of uptime... no problems....
then
this can come back in a small bunch of crashes.
