When I installed the window xp sp3 today, it alway failed due to the problem:
ntkrnlpa.exe is used or opened. but I checked many times that there is not a
program called ntkrnlpa.exe is running. How should I do to undate to sp3?
thanks in advance!

DId you install SP3 via Windows Update or manually? Was the machine running
WinXP SP1 or WinXP SP2 before SP3 was installed?

Thanks for your answer.

I install SP3 via windows Update. And my laptop was running WinXP sp2 before
sp3 was installed.

After reading the prerequisites for a successful installation sp3 in the
website advised by you, I disabled and even uninstalled my anti-viruls
software before installing sp3.But the intallation still failed owning to the
same reason:Another program has opened or used the file
c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe.

I am helpless.

Please post the complete (verbatim) error message.

Do you have a third-party program installed that customizes the graphics
that are displayed when your computer starts (e.g., BootXP; LogonUI Boot
Randomizer)?

Have you availed yourself of the free, unlimited support?
