windows 2000

i try to update my laptop and when it goes to microsoft to check to see if it
is up to date. it says that there is an error and wont update or completely
finish checking it.

1. Download the installer for IE6 SP1, saving it to your desktop:

2. Close all open applications.

3. Temporarily disable your anti-virus application.

4. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to install IE6 SP1. Don't
touch your keyboard until the installation completes. Follow all prompts
then reboot TWICE.

5. Immediately open IE to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Select CUSTOM
and scan | Install any Critical Security Updates offered (e.g., KB976325).
