Windows 2000 becomes unresponsive during update install

I have been trying to install (either by windows update or manually download
and install) the followings updates:
KB 873339
KB 885836
KB 885835
I am running a Windows 2000 Server, 5.00.2195, SP4.

It wil start to install and then the server becomes unresponsive. The clock
in statbar stops, the mouse does not move, and the keyboard is inoperative.

No blue screen.
