I have been getting this install error since Oct, 2006.
Looking at the messages, I do have regsvr32.exe in the system32 folder.
Any help would be appreciated.

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from
Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x80070002 or
0x80070003 error

Sorry but I do not understand your response.
I get the 70002 error when MS is trying to install security patch KB924191.
I do not get the 70002 error when searching for updates.
But are you just saying that this error is normal and should be ignored?

Okay, the update is downloaded. When it starts to install it fails.
If that is the case read article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

As you didn't state much in your original post, I provided two links to
cover most situations.

TaurArian,

Thanks for your time.
What does "Rename the SoftwareDistribution directory" do?
Will this cause all the updates that I have loaded over the years to be
reinstalled?

Also, I do not use the Automatic Update service; I manually update Windows
after I have backed up my hard drive.
Will this rename process still be relavent?

Where in Australia do you live?

WU downloads temporary update folders to the softwaredistribution folder under downloads.
They disappear after about 10 days anyway.
The only thing you lose when renaming the folder is your history but that's not important.

The automatic update service must be on even if you're not using automatic updates.

Where in Australia - Victoria/Melbourne

Thanks,

That did it.
I have 9 MB of files dating back to 1995 in the SD file.
Should I just delete it?

My wife and I spent 3 weeks is Australia back when the America's Cup was
there.
We went to Sidney, Cains, Alice Springs and Perth, but not Melburne.
Bet it is warmer there then here in Chicago.

Cheers

If everything okay, just delete the old folder you renamed.

Weather, warm and pleasant at the moment.
