Updating Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4 always results in
failure with a Kernel Mode Trap
Stop ***:0x0000007F (10x00000008,.. ) Unexpected_Kernel_Mode_Trap.
General reference to this in KB says it is due to hardware (memory,
processor speed, etc) Yet if SP4 uninstalled (via Safe Mode) system
continues to work OK.

Any one with similar problem in the past or ideas?

The typical trigger for this Stop Error is usually a driver
problem. And it is quite possible that the installation of
SP4 has caused an existing driver file to become unstable or
unusable. What system file is mentioned in the Stop Error?

Thanks for the input. Helped to re-look at fault and saw that first param
was (0x00000008), which appears to be due to a 'Double Fault' of hardware and
kernel stack overflow. Still progressing.
Much appreciate your interest.

It might help if one were to know what system file is listed
in the BSOD. If it is a third-party driver file, then it might
need to be first updated prior to Windows 2000 SP4.
