Windows 2000 Security Updates fail to install

I’m still unable to install all the successive updates and patches to my
computer. The list has grown now from the original seven to eleven. I’m
becoming more concerned as time passes regarding the vulnerability of my
computer. Since I can’t flatten the image and re-install (since I have no
idea why I can’t install the updates in the first place and might only be
wasting my time) I need some help trying to figure out why windows is telling
me I don’t have administrator rights to install these updates when I have
sufficient rights to install all the other ones.

Does anyone out there have any ideas why this happens and how to fix it?
The following list contains all the updates that won’t successfully install
to my computer from the windows update site:

Security Updates

KB840315 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB842526 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB841873 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB841872 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB839643 (DirectX 9.0)
KB839645 (Security Update for Windows 2000)

New to the list are:

KB834707 (Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 service Pack 1)
KB841356 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB840987 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB841533 (Security Update for Windows 2000)
KB824151 (Security Update for Windows 2000)

And:

Recommended Update:

KB837272 (Update for Windows Media Player 9 Series)

From the windows update site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

All other updates (both before and after these were issued) install
correctly, but when I try to install these, I get an install failure message
from the web page. I tried downloading them to my computer and installing
them that way, but then I get this message:

“Setup Error

You do not have permission to update Windows 2000. Please contact your
system administrator.”

I could understand this, but I AM the system administrator.

I’ve also tried to correct the problem using Microsoft Knowledge Base
Articles 316524 - "Administrators only" error message when you attempt to use
Windows Update Site, and 326686 "Windows update was disabled by your system
administrator" error message.

Please help

Log in as local admin then:
2. Click Start, click Run, and then type the following command:
regedit
3. Click OK.
4. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
Update
5. Right-click the Auto Update folder, and then click Permissions.
6. Make sure that the Administrators group has Full Control.

I don't understand why, but when I right click the Auto update folder, there
is no 'Permissions' option to select

Hi

Foe Windows 2000, you need to use regedt32.exe and not regedit.exe to
access registry permissions. Also, in regedt32.exe, there is no
support for right-clicking, you need to use the menus at the top.

Thanks so much. I was able to at least check the permissions (they allgave
my full access). Unfortunately, I still have the same problem, I can't
install these critical patches
