I have tried several times to install this up date and it downloads but will
not install, it downloads and when upon installing, it stalls for quite a
while over a half hour , when I will eventually close it out and cancel it. I
have comcast so my download speed is sufficent. Any other people having
issues with this update?

Please open a support call so they will fix this for everyone.
Until enough complain, they won't even admit it's their problem let alone
fix it.
Thanks,
Tom

good luck.
I spent 50 hour on the phone with them last week, half on hold, and the
problem is still not resolved.

It's an update problem they need to fix asap.

Tom, I got it resolved call 800-642-7676 and tell them there is an issue with
DirectX9 update when installing, they will get you to a tech, we had to
reboot in "safe mode" F8 when booting up, and downloaded the patch prior
from their website onto my desktop and install in "safe mode" and it did in
fact get installed, but it does not show in settings, add/remove programs
registry, BUT, is in fact loaded and on my computer, as I checked for new
updates and it did not come up again for an update, good luck!

When I force updates, windows installer 3.1 in particular, it no longer lets
me install anything else ever and subsequent updates still don't work.

You worked around one symptom of a much bigger problem, is all.

The problem is not fixed, I'll bet.

No it is, I have been able to download and install ALL other update patches,
always, it's just this DirectX9 that gave me a problem, so Yes it did
load, install and is working fine, you can call that number I already gave as
it is free to get help with all Microsofts updates! Again, sorry for your
troubles,or try getting to a tech, and use this reference number and patch
number and the 800 tech line REF# SRX 060105603935 PATCH #KB904706 TF #
800-936-4900 , you can be sure to spend some time with them to help resolve
this.

I already spent 50 hours on the phone with them and they do not want to
admit their problem.
dec 13th updates change file and registry permissions and they must provide
a fix.
Not just one key, all keys
